i have several bags, my university lecture bag, my just going for a coffee bag, my long night train ride bag, all have a few items in common. the essentials, more precisely, my essentials. the things that i’d be lost without. peering inside the folds of any of these bags, opens a window to my person, to my humour and my thoughts. an itemised social security number, immediately recognisable as my own.

airpods (or chunky blue headphones) (for what is existence without music, for the odd youtube video, the carefully curated playlist, the episode of a tv series dear to me)

sunglasses (yellow frames) (the world looks so much better through a colour filter, my outlook on the most rain-filled skies can be changed in a second by simply putting these on. they are visual serotonin for my brain and my eyes)

keys (car and house, three keychains, one lilac resin M filled with flowers, one heart patterned bracelet, one baby blue metal rectangle that says penthouse) (as much as I’d love these to be profound I simply like being able to get home)

film camera (yellow, kodak, 49 frames- 32 left) (to capture what captures my eyes permanently, to conceal and preserve memories of my friends, to decorate my life long after the moment subsides)

lipstick (contained in a lana del rey limited edition cigarette box) (two sticks: one blush pink – an every day look, one bright red – for causing a spectacle)

gold hoops (5cm across from h&m) (in case my initial choice of earrings don’t feel characterised or drama inducing enough, or consequently if I forget to put some in in the morning)

gum (mint or strawberry extra) (for the post black coffee or smoked salmon and cream cheese baguette mornings)
